| Objective |
To describe the modification made in ureteric stent and method of its insertion.
To evaluate clinical efficacy and safety of this modified ureteric stent (Indovasive, Bangalore, India) and compare it retrospectively with patients who had a normal double pigtail stent insitu after a tubeless PCNL. |
| Case Study |
Study Period : September 2007 to February 2008,
Number of patients : 32
Exclusion criteria for tubeless PCNL
Preoperative
Age <14 years of age
Complete staghorn / complex calculi-
Associated calyceal deiverticulum / UPJ
Bilateral simultaneous PCNL
Simultaneous contralateral URS or ESWL
Warfarin anticoagulant
Intraoperative
>2 percutaneous tracts
significant bleeding
pyonephrosis
Residual stone burden-
Matrix calculi. |
| Analysis |
Feasibility of stenting and its associated complications assessed Stent morbidity was assessed with validated ureteral stent symptoms questionnaire (USSQ).
The data (study group) was compared with patients who had normal double pigtail ureteric stent after tubeless PCNL (control group).
Statistics Analysis :
Software - Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS, version 12.0).
Quantitative variables- Means (± SD)
Qualitative variables- ratio.
Outcome of patients was compared using independent sample t-test (2-tailed) with 95% confidence interval for quantitative variables and Chi square test for qualitative data.
P<0.05 was considered significant. |
| Results |
| Patient’s demographics and perioperative data were comparable. |
